CHANNAPATNA LIGHT

‘Channapatna,’ the evolved toy-craft finds character through an assemblage of carefully crafted, naturally-lacquered beads made in collaboration with Noor Salma, a master craftswoman. These handmade objects are strung together as a floating yet functional light fitting. With alternately scaled convex beads that follow the profile of the curvature empathising with the bends the object follows, the light shines through the contrasting concave beads that position themselves intermediately, rather organically. The piece challenges the boundaries of scale that the craft ascertains with each unit planned in a manner to achieve endless permutations that allow for flexibility in form, expanse and colour.
